No kiddin. Dropping the "R" bomb (repent) is enough to keep plenty of Christians away from the table!

Well....sure. I mean both Presbys and Methodists are in the reformed tradition (Not Calvinistic, but reformed. Wesley was C of E) and that liturgy is Calvin's simplified liturgy. The form we are discusses picks up some things from the Lutheran/Catholic side as well as develops some of its own.

Now, that's interesting to see.

Do I take it that the Presbyterian and Methodist influence is responsible for the shaping of the liturgy?

Now THAT's what I'm talking about. Examples. I always collect these when I visit other churches, which I seldom get the opportunity to. I love observing and learning from other people's different expression of the same faith I share with them. Brings different things out, ya know?

I don't know about anyone else - and sorry if this is a bit off topic - but the sermon included in the example sounds VERY intriguing...

NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURE Portions of Luke ch. 8
SERMON “Three Questions that Jesus Asks Us”
Where is your faith? What is your name? Who touched Me?
(Preacher: Pastor Robert S. Turton III)

I'm so sorry. We all end up in the desert at some point. All you can do is keep searching, even if it feels mechanical, and know that God is always with you, and that when you cry He cries with you.

The Holy Spirit is working in you for a reason or you would not find yourself on this journey. Hang in there.

As you know, iMonk, I'm an Anglican these days. What's interesting to me is how many of these elements are present even in our "casual" service, though not always identified by name.

Recently I experience a qualm, wondering whether I should vary the prayer with which I open the casual service, since it varies very little from week to week, though it isn't from a prayer book. Your posts helped me decide to stick with it as-is.

Just one note for a couple of people: we aren't critically bombing what people do in their church.
