His talk truly revolutionized my idea of pastorate and seminary -- his opinion that all pastors should spend the first year of seminary reading great works of literature. Amen! His Eat This Book is a must-read. And I loved his reasoning for enjoying Joyce and finding helpful hints in Ulysses. And his thin about Bono -- "Dean, it was Isaiah!" Too funny. Dean Nelson was kind enough to share his office with me when I was a startving adjunct in the lit dept of Point Loma. I still can't get used to seeing him in a tie....
