This was a really good sermon. I preached on it, too. We had similar applications though we came from different understandings. I assumed the man was genuine, but tied to his possessions, i.e., he loved them more than he loved Jesus. The insight about the man quoting from the 2nd tablet of commandments and NOT from the 1st was new. I'm glad I learned that. Thanks for sharing this sermon.

Update: I can get into them through the "download" link.
The problem seems to be in the "Play in new window".
Will be catching up on lost time the rest of the week.

Great message Imonk.

this is what i love about the lectionary. I got up early Sunday went to the early Rite I at the local TEC and heard a good sermon on the same text. Went to my church,, baptist, where I preached the same text as well. Now I've heard you preach it again in a Presbyterian church.

All three, if I do say so myself, were good sermons.

Unity in God's people.

IMonk, did something happen to the podcasts a few weeks ago?

I used to be able to listen to them in the "Play in new window" mode, but a few weeks ago I started getting "Unable to retrieve media information" every time I tried. This happens at both my work and home systems.

A basically-good, young, upwardly-mobile individual seeking spiritual affirmation? maybe the rich young was a "seeker". Funny that Jesus didn't give a culturally-relevant answer to make him feel at home.
