    Michael –

Have you listened to the Tim Keller talk on “It takes a city to raise a child” ? The subject matter isn’t the same, but it has many resonances and echoes with what you say about finding gospel centered churches:

  2. Dear Michael,

I wanted to drop you a note of thanks for your kind words about Pirate Christian Radio and your support of the Gospel in general.

I just wanted to let you know what’s going on these days with us. We just celebrated our 30th day of broadcasting. Our stats just came in and we are completely blown away with what the Lord has done.

In our first 30 days, Pirate Christian Radio is ranked at number 4 for talk stations who broadcast via Live 365. That might not seem impressive at first, but there are 278 talk stations on live 365 and many of them have been around for years. Our first day, we pretty much crashed their servers. The owner of PCR contacted Live 365 because listeners were being turned away and they said “Who are you people? No one has ever maxed out on their first day!” So we had to do some upgrading. We have had nearly 30,000 listeners from 58 countries in only 30 days and we are completely humbled.

Personally, I am completely blown away because I pastor a little church of less than 100 total members and here I am in the middle of this sort of thing!

We have some amazing preachers, teachers and hosts from little congregations as well as large across the country. There are wonderful pastors like Steve Flo for example, from DeSoto MO, who would never have dreamed that he would be on the radio any other way, but there he is preaching the Gospel on PCR! I am so pleased that we are able to bring solid JESUS centered CROSS shaped Christianity to the world.

It is kind brothers and sisters like you who are spreading the word about us and causing me to work on this every day with gratitude and joy for my fellow Christians in the world of every flavor and stripe.

May the Lord continue to bless you and the work of your hands and mouth!

Thanks for the recommendation of PCR. I went to iTunes and subscribed to a few of the podcasts (Law and Gospel, Fighting for the Faith, Wresting with the Basics and Issues,ETC) to check them out. So far, I am impressed.

    I have learned that:
    1) “love the Lord your God & love your neighbor as yourself” is Law. In fact, love itself is part of the Law (true love, like keeping the law, never being attainable by us.)

    2) Teaching the bema seat judgment and heavenly rewards is like teaching a sort of a “pre-death purgatory.”

Not saying these views are wrong, just never heard it expressed like this. I think them Lutherans will give me something to think about.

  4. Give us a little time, we’ll give you something to point and laugh at too. 🙂

If you’re curious about basic Lutheran theology. check out “the God Whisperers” on PCR – we’re covering the Small Catechism (most basic catechism). You can also subscribe to that on I Tunes or google the website.

    I’d love to discuss.

    God’s Peace

I’ve been listening to Pirate Christian Radio since it began. I’m a cradle Catholic, former Episcopalian, current Southern Baptist who’s contemplating the PCA or Lutheran church. Any thoughts on why I should choose one over the other? Dr. Mohler speaks Calvinism, but there’s Arminians in the pews of the SBC. . .
