A heart-breaking story. You see this sort of thing in fiction, but it's important to remember such things happen.

I'm curious if there is more to the statement: "Give your life to Christ, Susan."? Do we receive joy from this commitment?

Thanks!

Michael,
Your story about Susan is just heartbreaking. As one of the posters said, we all make mistakes, we all have broken places on the inside. The price of Susan's mistake and the pain of her broken places just seems so high.
The villian in this story is not your school, certainly not Susan but is those who say morality is outdated and sex is just a feeling, you have to grab for happiness where you find it at the moment.
Susan's face shows us the price that she has paid for their foolishness. And we have paid too.

im reminded of the story yancey tells of the girl who wouldnt go to church bc she already felt crappy enough about herself.

why do we expect that there exists anyone on this planet who is not like susan? i hate rem but everybody hurts and we cant possibly be so blind as to think anyone doesnt.

Michael,
i come from a home of divorced parents. I recently posted a blog about broken things. It is not very eloquennt, but I would like to point out that the Gospel of Jesus is made for people like "Susan" and my self, people who make the mistakes. Christ creates not only a second chance, but renewed life, a wonderful abundant life filled with light and love. Something that often folks growing up in the Church don't really understand. I can empathize with the misery of having made poor decisions and ending up miserable and trapped. But Christ came to free the oppressed, and to heal the lame. It is never easy for us to see people around us suffer, but I can testify that these very wounds through the work of Christ can be healing for others and redemption for ourselves. Just wanted to share my own perspective on your post. I think the loss associated with this kind of sin, debauchery ratherthan oppression, the agent of the sin bears in theri own body the results of the sin. It is tragic, but it is the tragedy of humanity... we walk away from the very thing we most need and love.
Thanks for posting

Sad. It makes you wonder. It reminds you to wonder I should say... about just how many Susans live in our lives already harboring terrible secrets and pain, and we don't even know it. They may not be vocalizing it or writing about it, but I've become convinced that there are many Susans around us, and we need to show love as though we are not only entertaining angels unawares, but Susans too. I hope your prayer for Susan is answered. thus spoke churchpundit!

Michael,

This post grabbed my heart. Thank you. I stand with you in this prayer. May the Lord show her the incredible love that she has always desired.
