Saturday Ramblings, April 12, 2014

Happy Saturday, imonkers.  It finally feels a little like spring in the Midwest.  And, good news for Chaplain Mike, as of Friday afternoon the Cubbies are only four games out of first place! Did you know there is a new documentary promoting geocentrism? Star Trek’s Captain Kathryn Janeway (aka Kate Mulgrew) narrates it, and it features […]

Happy April, imonkers.  Tuesday was April Fool’s Day.  Did you pull any pranks?  Have any pulled on you?  Do share in the comments. Make them up if you have to. I have a friend who calls April 1 the Atheist Holiday (referencing Psalm 14:1) but I find this extremely uncharitable.  But did you know how […]

Saturday Ramblings, March 29, 2014

Hello, imonk family.  I hope it is starting to get warm wherever you live. Several of the imonk writers (myself, Chaplain Mike, Lisa Dye, Damaris Zehner and Joe the Plumber) were let out the asylum long enough to meet for breakfast this week.  And Pope Francis met with President Obama this week. Of course, the liberal […]

Happy Saturday, imonkers.  Those of us in the states are in the midst of March Madness, that time of year when athletic teenagers make obscene amounts of money for tv networks.  And Monday was St. Patrick’s Day, of course.  Did you wear green? Drink green beer? You know, if you were Hindu, the day would […]

Saturday Ramblings, March 15, 2014

Welcome to the weekend, fellow imonkers.  It is now about two months that I have had the privilege of writing the ramblings, and I think Pope Francis made the cut every week.  But since Martha had two wonderful posts on Francis of Monday and Tuesday of this week, I will refrain from all pope-talk.  If […]

UPDATE: Bill Gothard resigns from IBLP and affiliated organizations. * * * Happy weekend, imonkers. Here in the Midwest, we are finally above freezing (at least during the day). And, of course, Lent began this week.  Did you give anything up?  One analysis of the top things people gave up for lent is based on […]

Saturday Ramblings, March 1, 2014

Hello, fellow imonkers.  Many thanks to Adam Palmer for pinch-hitting for me last week as I escaped the Midwest tundra for a week in Arizona to visit family.  I hate family fights,  and am therefore happy to report I successfully dodged all attempts to argue over the proposed Arizona Religious Freedom bill (vetoed on Wednesday by […]

Saturday Ramblings – February 22, 2014

Note from CM: Pastor Dan is enjoying the weather in Arizona and driving me crazy by being right in the neighborhood where the Cubs have started spring training. Meanwhile here I sit in the Midwest. Oh well. As Dan rambles ’round the desert, I asked our friend Adam Palmer to pinch-hit for Dan today. Thanks, […]

Did you miss the Christian Oscars?  Okay, that is not their official name, but The Annual Movieguide Faith & Values Awards doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. This year’s big winners included Duck Dynasty, Frozen, Iron Man 3, Grace Unplugged and The Bible. Quote of the night goes to Mark Burnett (producer of The Bible […]

The Gallup organization has released its latest report of American religiosity.  41 percent of Americans indicated that they are “very religious,” 29 percent were classified as nonreligious, and another 29 percent fell somewhere in-between.  Each state was also rated, with Mississippi found to  have the most “very religious” people (61%) and Vermont the fewest. (22%).  You can […]
