Yes, this past week was my spring break. That’s why I had the time to do interviews, moderate comments, answer emails, etc. If all this had happened any other time, I’d have been at work or preparing sermons, etc. So “Thank You, Lord!” for the time to enjoy my 15 minutes.

Here are some of the thoughts, impressions and memories from the week. (Every paragraph is a separate thought. No continuity.)

What if Jeremiah had written “The Coming Judean Collapse?” I think he would have heard “That will never happen. We’ve got the temple….the temple….the temple….” Then they would have thrown him in a well. [Continue reading]

We have a lot of good people here at IM, and I count many of you as dear and wonderful friends. But I got to making this darned list….Who actually hangs out here, reads this blog every day and comments on the posts?

1. People who strive to understand what I’m doing and take something good from it.

2. People who respect the diversity of opinions here and protect that by their respectful participation.

3. People wanting to learn more about evangelicals or other Christians.

4. People monitoring me for employers, friends and the “Chat Channel.” [Continue reading]

UPDATE: “Laugh or else” is a category that ought to only be used by people with a sense of humor. All others just stay clear. Apparently poking fun at Ark hunters qualifies me as an angry, Bible rejecting heretic. Well, I’d like to thank all the little people who made this possible…

Since we’re talking about religion and science, let’s see what Baptists are up to.

It has to make you feel good that Liberty University- practically a Southern Baptist School and the recipient of thousands of dollars and students from trusting Southern Baptists- has employed its very own Indiana Jones, who is off to do guess what?

Guess. Really. Guess.

Thank you. Find Noah’s Ark [Continue reading]

rwChurch of England Archbishop Rowan Williams has clearly lost his mind.

What he’s asking of churches is…..it’s…..well………

In these times when the church has the opportunity to show great film clips, debate homosexuality, have a kickin’ band and Comedy Central in the pulpit, Archbishop Rowan is suggesting….that…..

I can’t say it. It’s simply unthinkable in this day and age. With leadership like this, what is going to happen to the Church of England?

Thank God that evangelicals have leaders that are far ahead of this sort of insulting and out-of-touch thinking.

I’m sorry to have to share this kind of personal information at my blog, but I just can’t help myself.

Something terrible has happened.

Denise, I’m sorry you have to read this, but I have to tell the truth. I can’t keep it in.

Everything that’s happened is the fault of a woman; an evil, possessive woman toying with my very soul.

Yes, I’m married, but I’m only human. For years now, I’ve had a relationship, a strange, obsessive relationship, with a woman who could do for me what no other woman could do.

I’ve seen her several times a week, sometimes near where I live, sometimes when I travel. Our meetings have been brief, but regular. My devotion has been intense. This relationship is a passion, even if a guilty one. I thought it was under control, but now I’ve seen that there was so much more to it than I ever was willing to admit.

Now…now she’s done something that has changed everything. I never thought it would come to this. I never thought she would hurt me so much and make me have to go in front of the whole world and confess my love for her.

But that’s what it’s all come to. So….I’m telling all, and I don’t care what happens. If this is the end of the life and reputation I’ve earned, then so be it. I have to choose, and this woman is worth it. [Continue reading]

Reading all these spiritual resolutions all day has made me feel so ashamed of myself. I need to set better goals.

So I may be a little late, but here they are: The Internet Monk’s 2009 Resolutions. (In your face, Jonathan Edwards.) I hope they inspire you.

1. I really need to stop stubbing my toe on the kitchen chairs. Anyone have any ideas? [Continue reading]

Reverend Billy says “Stop Shopping! Your consumerism is out of control!”

And the iMonk says “Give that fundamentalist young person near you a Christmas to remember…..and their pastor a reason to blow a wicket.”

(BTW, I don’t just mean any fundamentalist young person. I mean that young person who is stuck in a fundamentalist church, youth program or school, and they just don’t fit in. They’re different. You can look at this kid and tell that he/she isn’t buying it all. They’re skeptical. They’re thinking and questioning. Yes, they’ve been subjected to the youth revivals, youth camps, Gothard-ite mind control techniques, Dobson parenting principles and some whack job’s infant feeding schedule plan for producing a compliant kid….and none of it has worked. This kid has the wrong music on his/her ipod. The hair’s looking rebellious. There’s some comic tucked away in their backpack. They’re cruisin’ some websites that would send their youth minister into exorcism mode. Yes, THAT kid. That kid that needs some mentoring, some light, some message in a bottle that there’s something on the other side of Christianity than what’s been foisted on him/her.)

So, here’s Ten Gift Ideas For a Fundamentalist Young Person Near You: [Continue reading]

OK frustrated voters. Let’s help each other out.

Who will be your “write-in” candidates for the national ticket?

I’m strongly tempted to write in Al Mohler for President and Ken Silva for VP. These two guys are predictable conservatives who know everything.

Right behind them: T.D. Jakes and Paula White. They can get us out of this financial crisis if we’ll just sow a little seed faith money.

It’s my third go around on my favorite radio/podcast program.

We talked about Halloween, the Election and House, M.D.

If SBE isn’t on your itunes, you’re missing one of the best treats on the web.

Thanks to Erik, Kathy and Steve for a great time.

UPDATE: Looks like there’s more than I thought.

Many in the Internetmonk.com audience may not know that the English Standard Version Study Bible is not the only Study Bible that’s been in the works,. Before Christmas, expect to see some of these study Bibles appearing on bookstore shelves and in cyber bookstalls near you.

The Phil Johnson “PoMotivator” Study Bible. Blogging curmudgeon Phil Johnson brings his pomotivator magic to a study Bible that once and for all points out the errors of emerging church theology and David Crowder’s haircare. With more than 250 new pomotivators scattered throughout the old and new testaments, Bible students can appreciate how Paintshop Pro and biting sarcasm can open up the scriptures. [Continue reading]

…and the resulting train wreck is there for you to read in the comments thread. Arminian Today Blog placed the ESV Study Bible video on their site and gave a plug for the Bible. Sounds safe…right?

What follows is a study in why I’m not a Calvinist anymore, and it should be funny…but it’s hard to laugh after a while. These are real people. Their mother must be so proud.

You can call it “cage phase” or “personality disorder,” but there’s something at work here that you see in a lot of theology loving believers. It’s called “totally missing the point of human conversation.”

And just in case, Charles, I won’t be posting your comments here :-)

UPDATE: Thanks to Brandon M for the first exhibit. Oprah needs to get some work done on her hands, though.

Van Til here again. The lawsuit is proceeding well, but I need some evidence.

I need “Product Placement Photographs” of the ESV Study Bible.

Where in the media has Justin Taylor cleverly placed the ESV Study Bible where all can see it?

I need photos in a size appropriate for posting here at IM, so please note the width of posts. (Or if it’s really good, I can do the shrinkage, but this lawsuit is keeping me busy.) [Continue reading]
